Baghlan win football championship Habibur Rahman Sherzai PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAN): Baghlan club won the final of a football championship after defeating Kuduz club 1-0 in the northern province of Baghlan, officials said on Saturday. The three-day tournament that featured teams from northeastern provinces was launched Tuesday at the Pul-i-Khumri Stadium. Teams from Badakhshan, Takhar, Kunduz and Baghlan participated in the event. Baghlan sports department head, Ahmad Shah Momini, told Pajhwok Afghan News that nearly 2,000 spectators watched the final. He said the winners paved their way to participate in a zonal football tournament to be played in the capital Kabul shortly. However, he did not provide a specific date when the zonal tournament was going to start. But said one team from the eight zones would play in the Kabul tournament. „It was an interesting game and both teams played well“, said a Baghlan player, Muhammad Jabar, who scored a goal for the side. Jabar was happy with his side’s performance, hoping the team would maintain its form during the Kabul tournament as well. „Both teams played well. To be honest, the Kunduz looked strong, but Baghlan secured a goal which led them to victory, „said one of the spectators, Jamshid.
